Recruitment and Selection
Recruitment
TCS can coordinate the recruitment function for your business, having the responsibility to accept or reject contractors for work with your business.
(TCS would be happy to accept nominations from your business.)
TCS can also seek support from the other licensees throughout Australia who may be aware of unengaged and appropriately experienced workers, prepared to travel to the worksite for contract work.
Local Job Network organisations are advised of the potential vacancies and criteria for selection, and encouraged to provide the names of workers who they believe would carry out the requirements of the positions available.
Many Job Network organizations pay incentives, at various milestones, where certain workers are continuously engaged for periods of 13 and 26 weeks. TCS may use these funds to provide incentive payments to contractors and to provide support to the Client.
Pre-Placement program
A pre-placement program is developed by TCS in conjunction with the Client to ensure that all contractors:
- are interviewed by TCS staff to determine their suitability as a TCS contractor. This will include reference checking, educational standards attained (where relevant), skill levels and work history examination.
- may undertake a full medical examination (at their own expense) prior to any acceptance by the Client (client choice). Many export food businesses require this as part of licensing conditions and with the current emphasis placed on food safety standards by both Australian and International regulators and markets together with current OH&S legislation we believe this to be essential.
- may be required to participate in a drug and alcohol screening program both prior to and after placement (client choice). We envisage a simple screening process to be included as part of the selection process along with an ongoing random testing and screening program. This is becoming more and more commonplace in workplaces throughout Australia as companies strive to meet the demands of OH&S legislation. Failure of this screening program would result in the contractor not being placed with the Client or being removed from the site by TCS.
- understand their responsibilities for Occupational Health and Safety at both the legislative and Client level. TCS has already developed a generic OH&S induction program for all contractors. The contractor will be required to sign off that he/she has participated in and understands their obligations under this element of the entire induction program.
The client will always have responsibility for making the final acceptance of any contractor.
